The Russian company "STC Elins" has modernized the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun for combating small-sized drones. The updated ZU-23AE gun was shown at the Army-2024 forum.
The system received a remote control system, a thermal imager, and the ability to use shells with programmable air burst.
The explosion of several munitions creates a cloud of fragments, increasing the likelihood of hitting micro and mini-UAVs, which are cheap. It is expensive to shoot at them with large calibers and missiles.
Ukhandeev added that the modernized "Zushka" is already undergoing field tests and there is a request for it from the Armed Forces.
Tactical and technical characteristics of ZU-23-2:
- Caliber — 23 mm
- Gun length — 2555 mm
- Rate of fire — 2000 rounds/min
- Firing range — 1.5 km in height
- Crew — 6 people
