ОСК показала новый корвет на базе «Каракурта»

The modernized ship received an improved propulsion system and an expanded set of anti-submarine weapons

A new model of corvette, based on the Project 22800 "Karakurt", was presented at the "Army-2024" forum. As a result of the modernization work, the ship's propulsion system was changed. This freed up additional volumes on board, which were subsequently used to accommodate modern anti-submarine weapons.

Features of the New Corvette

The corvette was additionally equipped with a hydroacoustic complex with a pod-keel and towed antennas, as well as a small-sized anti-submarine complex "Paket-NK". These weapons allow the ship to effectively detect and destroy underwater targets, providing reliable protection in coastal areas.

Despite the changes in the propulsion system, which led to a decrease in full speed from 32 to 26 knots, the corvette retains high combat power and maneuverability. The ship's main armament remains the same and includes a 76.2-mm AK-176MA gun, eight launchers for cruise missiles, and the "Pantsir-ME" anti-aircraft missile and artillery complex. In addition, the ship has space for placing a container with various types of equipment, which expands its functionality.

Tasks and Application

The new corvette is designed to perform a wide range of tasks in the coastal zone. Its capabilities allow it to effectively support the deployment of nuclear submarines and large warships, especially in strategically important areas such as the Barents and Bering Seas. The corvette can also replace the aging small anti-submarine ships of Projects 1124M and 1331, providing the Russian fleet with modern and more effective means for protecting and supporting operations at sea.
