В Москве разработали нейронный анализатор горных пород

Composition identification takes from 1 to 30 minutes

A neutron analyzer for recognizing the chemical composition of rocks has been created at the National Nuclear Research University "MEPhI" (MEPhI). The device was presented at the "Army-2024" forum.

The new product is more efficient than its counterparts. Its advantage lies in the speed of analyzing the chemical composition of rocks. This takes from 1 to 30 minutes.

The device performs analysis using the neutron-radiation method, which is based on measuring the spectra of secondary gamma radiation. It occurs when the rock is irradiated with thermal and fast neutrons.

The process forms energy spectra of gamma radiation distribution. Their energy is individual for each chemical element in the analyzed sample.

The analysis is carried out over the entire depth of the sample. The neural analyzer can determine light elements such as hydrogen, boron, chlorine, and others.

The new device can be used in metallurgy (for quality control of products), in industry (for identifying the composition of proud rocks), and in the oil industry (for analyzing the composition of sludge). The analyzer can also be useful in scientific research.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that TPU created software for studying rocks using the SKIF Shared Knowledge Center.
