At Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), a method has been found to accelerate the extraction of highly viscous oil. It consists of distributing the temperature of the bottom-hole heater, according to the university's press service.
The new model is three-dimensional and contains the necessary area with a perforated pipe. Experts have determined that oil accelerates near the openings around the heater and centrifugal pump, and it reaches its lowest viscosity near the device and in the center of the flow.
Scientists have developed a three-dimensional mathematical model to study the processes of heat and oil transfer in a well. This allows assessing the temperature distribution in the well and taking necessary measures to reduce viscosity and prevent deposits.
This makes it possible to reduce the load on the electric centrifugal pump and prevent equipment failure.
The developers found that the length of the heater for stable oil pumping is 1 m. A necessary condition is maintaining the temperature at 122°.
We found that using a heater with the highest power in a perforated well allows increasing the oil temperature at the inlet to the electric centrifugal pump to 60 degrees, and reducing the viscosity by 14 times compared to the initial oil viscosity. The model allowed us to describe in detail the nature of the flow and heat exchange in the well section with low productivity and high-viscosity oil.
The new model is more efficient and accurate compared to its counterparts. It will reduce material costs and excessive resource consumption in field development.
