Avoiding Tragedy: Russia Transitions to Digital Twins of Bridges Over Rivers

The first one will appear in the Irkutsk region on the Lena River by 2026

The digital bridge in Ust-Kut will begin to be "built" as early as 2025. It will be Russia's first digital adapted twin of a bridge crossing of a road bridge.

A mathematical model of the bridge crossing will monitor the displacement of the bridge supports and their load in real time to avoid accidents and collapses. According to IA "TASS", it will help to find problem areas more efficiently than specialists.

Such a digital twin of a bridge crossing will avoid the situation that recently occurred in the Smolensk region, when a road overpass collapsed onto the railway. The most unpleasant thing is that it was inspected by people two years ago, and it was decided that it would last another five years.
Yuri Trofimov, Rector of the Irkutsk State University of Railway Transport

It is expected that the development of the "Tsifra" startup school of IrGUPS will be adopted by other regions of Russia.
