The needs of Russian Railways (RZD) for locomotives until 2035 are estimated at 9.9 thousand units. This is stated in the presentation of the company's Deputy Head Dmitry Pegov at a working meeting on the development of transport engineering in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
Pegov said that the need of Russian Railways for locomotives until 2035 will be almost 10 thousand units. According to him, Russian Railways expects a shortage of traction rolling stock, since the company's needs exceed the capabilities of manufacturers.
In order to stay within the parameters that we see, taking into account the decreasing fleet, the construction of the Eastern Polygon, and approximate plans for transportation, we may face a deficit of almost 1.5 thousand locomotives by 2035.
He also noted that Russian Railways sent to the Office of the Government of the Russian Federation a position agreed with locomotive manufacturers on the conclusion of long-term contracts for their supply for a period of 6-10 years. It is planned to fix the volume of locomotive purchases for six years, subject to approval by the government and approval of the company's financial plan and investment program for this period.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian Railways lacks tanks.
