The TPU development is designed to conduct experiments on tomographic scanning of core samples at the Central Control Point "Skiff". The new software will help conduct research in a wide range, display large amounts of data and conduct statistical analysis of the composition of samples.
The software product has already been licensed and will operate on the third station, "Microfocus," of the Central Control Point, which was also developed at TPU.
The "Microfocus" station, thanks to an advanced X-ray focusing system, will allow the study of micro-objects up to 200 nanometers in size. Its specialization will be X-ray microscopy and microtomography, combined with high-resolution scanning X-ray fluorescence analysis and structural studies of crystals under high pressures.
Laboratory microtomographs will perform routine tomography of the entire core material to select samples for research on the synchrotron beam. This will significantly reduce the cost of core research, reduce scanning time by up to 25 times and increase its speed by more than 300 times.
According to the scientist, when using laboratory tomographs and the CCP synchrotron together, it will be possible to process 25 samples per day. In 7-14 days, it will be possible to study more than 300 samples.
Currently, before the application of this technology, the creation of a comprehensive digital twin on laboratory tomographs usually takes at least seven days and costs about a million rubles. The new software will allow conducting a full range of core sample studies on the synchrotron and advance science forward.
