The foundry of the military-industrial holding company "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant" (KMZ) has modernized a thermal furnace for the heat treatment of the nozzle vane casing by order of "LP Tekhnologiya". This was reported by the holding's press service.
Pavel Ivkov, Head of the Non-Ferrous Foundry "Zimititsy", was in charge of the modernization of the thermal furnace. He combined heating with electric heating devices with simultaneous heating with gas burners, which made it possible to reach the required temperature.
The difficulty lay in the need to obtain high mechanical properties of nitrided steel, since this nozzle vane has increased requirements for heat resistance (it operates at temperatures up to +650°C).
At the same time, the heat treatment temperature should be 1180°C. This was impossible, since the maximum operating temperature of all KMZ thermal furnaces is 1100°C.
The nozzle vane is an element of a steam or gas turbine. The equipment converts the potential energy of exhaust gases into kinetic energy.
