Russian military personnel on the front lines have begun using Geran-2 reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev. The devices have been given the ability to return to their deployment point, he noted.
The operation of Geran-2 UAVs in a reconnaissance modification with the ability to return to the deployment point and a range of up to 1250 - 1300 km has been noted.
Damantsev clarified that 4G modules connecting to cellular networks can be used to transmit video images from gyro-stabilized optoelectronic modules.
In addition, the new drones have the ability to autonomously perform reconnaissance operations using inertial navigation systems and save objective control data on solid-state drives in 2K/4K resolution.
Such reconnaissance drones can be used to detect the location of enemy air defense forces, including anti-aircraft missile systems, followed by the aiming of weapons.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepek flamethrower received dome protection against enemy FPV drones.
