Рунет начнут зачищать: владельцев больших каналов обяжут регистрироваться в Роскомнадзоре

The country's authorities are working on measures to control information on social networks and messengers. Anonymity and the spread of prohibited data are planned to be stopped. This was announced by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications.

It is planned to oblige owners of channels, groups or pages on social networks and messengers to register with Roskomnadzor. This refers to resources with an audience of 1,000 people or more.

The channel owner will have to provide the regulator with their passport and contact details. This requirement is already being worked out in Roskomnadzor. Those who disagree will be blocked.

According to Anton Nemkin, Roskomnadzor has repeatedly demanded that the Telegram and WhatsApp platforms track and remove prohibited information. Slowing down the operation and possible blocking are being considered for both platforms. In the future, this will affect all resources that do not comply with the agency's requirements.

I don't think it makes sense for us to focus only on WhatsApp right now. As I said, by the end of this year or early next year, we will have new rules for user verification and content moderation in place.

It was also noted that the work of the WhatsApp messenger has already been slowed down in some regions of the country. The reason was calls for extremist activity among users of the messenger.
