The Russian Ministry of Defense could adopt MR-155 (JSC Izhevsk Mechanical Plant) and Bekas-12M Auto (JSC Vyatskopoliansky Machine-Building Plant "Molot") shotguns, as well as a shot cartridge for a 18.5 mm smoothbore shotgun. This weapon is suitable for combating drones at low altitudes. This opinion was expressed by military expert Alexander Timokhin.
According to him, an average qualified shooter can shoot down a flying small UAV with a smoothbore shotgun using a shot cartridge. A 12-gauge (18.5 mm) cartridge is effective because it has maximum stopping power and contains more pellets than other cartridges.
The best choice for shooting at UAVs is a "choke" muzzle constriction. If a unit has a shotgun with a cylindrical barrel, then, if possible, it should be retrofitted with a muzzle attachment with a "choke".
Timokhin added that the accuracy of shooting depends on the barrel length of the shotgun. He recommended paying attention to shotguns with a barrel length of 710-750 mm.
Our shotgun is a long-barreled 12-gauge semi-automatic with a tubular magazine, a "choke" barrel constriction, a 76-mm chamber, a sighting bar, and a classic stock without a pistol grip.
