Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has demanded greater localization of the production of Geely and Belgee cars in Belarus. This was his reaction to the fact that body parts for the Belarusian factory "BelGee" will be produced by the company "Petroform" from St. Petersburg.
We need to go deeper and develop further. We need to produce bodies at a minimum, so as not to transport them from somewhere.
At the BelGee plant, where Geely and Belgee crossovers are produced, assembly is done by large-unit method, and Lukashenko wants massive localization to be established.
We are a machine-building country. Yes? Yes. Do we make engines for all our cars? No.
Earlier, BelGee CEO Gennady Svidersky stated that the production of body parts would be outsourced, and they would be stamped at the Petroform enterprise in St. Petersburg.
Note that since the beginning of the year, the BelGee plant has produced 35,000 cars of the Belgee and Geely brands. It turned out that the Belarusian Belgee X50 crossover (renamed Geely Coolray) has become more popular in Russia than in Belarus. Thus, 14,343 cars were sold in the Russian market, and only 2,279 cars in Belarus.
