"Adequate response to threats": Putin spoke about the development of the Russian Navy

Shipbuilders will transfer more than 40 ships to the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2024

The authorities must comprehensively develop the Russian Navy, including ship, aviation and coastal components, and strengthen military bases in strategically important areas of the World Ocean. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting dedicated to the development of domestic shipbuilding.

The head of state stressed that in recent years the Russian fleet has been replenished with new ships, it is equipped with modern types of weapons. In 2022, the country's shipbuilding enterprises transferred 24 ships to the Russian Ministry of Defense, in 2023 — 33, this year it is planned to transfer more than 40, Putin added.

The President noted that Russia regularly hears threats from other countries against it.

This should be taken as seriously as possible, all possible risks should be calculated and an adequate response should be planned, and our Armed Forces and Navy should be strengthened.
Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

According to him, to modernize the fleet, it is necessary to introduce systems for remote detection of threats, including from UAVs. This is not only control of the airspace by air defense systems, but also observation of the surface and underwater situation.

The Russian fleet needs to be protected from potential attacks on distant approaches to bases, to develop reconnaissance aviation, and to increase electronic warfare equipment. In addition, it is necessary to assess the needs of coastal missile and artillery troops, Putin summarized.
