The pilot of a Russian supersonic high-altitude all-weather long-range interceptor MiG-31BM, carrying R-37M air-to-air missiles of long range, can intercept an American RQ-4B Global Hawk reconnaissance drone. Such drones have recently become frequent over the Black Sea. This was written by the specialized Telegram channel «Russian weapons».
At the same time, the crew of the long-range interceptor MiG-31BM will absolutely not need to leave Russian airspace over Crimea.
The author of the publication explained that the 8BM airborne radar of the MiG-31BM aircraft is capable of detecting an American reconnaissance drone with an effective reflecting surface (RCS) of about 20-25 sq. m at a distance of up to 320-400 km. After that, the pilot can launch an R-37M missile at a distance of 280 km with a 95% probability of intercepting the RQ-4B Global Hawk.
If this information is confirmed, then we will be talking about an asymmetric response from the Russian Aerospace Forces to the range of intelligence information provided by AN/ZPY-2 radars to ATACMS OTRK calculations.
Earlier www1.ru wrote that British geopolitical analyst Alexander Mercouris suggested using Russian electronic warfare systems to suppress RQ-4B Global Hawk and Western AWACS aircraft.
