The crew of the Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopter of the frigate "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" practiced tactical methods of searching for and tracking submarines in the Atlantic Ocean. The pilots' training was of a planned nature.
According to the Ministry of Defense, at a distance of 50 kilometers from the ship, the Ka-27PL performed a series of tasks for visual, radar, magnetometric, and hydroacoustic search for enemy submarines.
The search was carried out using standard radio equipment and the helicopter's onboard sonar station. Also, during the flight shift, the crew of the Ka-27 shipborne helicopter performed landings on the frigate's helicopter pad on the move. During the practice of landings and takeoffs from the frigate's deck, the helicopter crew demonstrated high skill and the ability to competently analyze information coming from the helicopter's and ship's navigation devices. A total of 5 landings were made on the ship's deck.
In addition, the crew conducted aerial reconnaissance to assess the air and surface situation along the route of the ship detachment, which is headed by "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov".
"Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" is a modern multi-purpose ship with guided missile weapons, designed to solve tasks in the far sea and ocean zones. It was accepted into the Navy in 2018, and in 2021 it was modified and equipped with hypersonic "Zircon" missiles. The frigate is capable of delivering precise and powerful strikes against the enemy at sea and on land.
Currently, "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" heads a detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet, which set out on a long voyage on May 17. Its goal, as noted by the Ministry of Defense, is "demonstration of the flag and ensuring a naval presence in operationally important areas of the far ocean zone".
The frigate has already practiced hitting air targets in the Atlantic during exercises, and from June 12 to 17, a group of Russian Navy ships paid a visit to Cuba, which worried the United States. It is known that US Navy ships were used to monitor both "Admiral Gorshkov" and its accompanying ships and submarines.
