Admiral Pepelyaev: Naval Artillery is Relevant for Combating Naval Drones

The missile armament of warships will not solve the problem of combating naval drones; naval artillery is still relevant for this task. This opinion was expressed by the former Deputy Chief of the Main Staff of the Russian Navy, retired Vice Admiral Vladimir Pepelyaev.

Such an artillery mount is needed; hitting the shore is too expensive, but destroying small targets like mines, drones... Unlike missile systems, the artillery mount has no lower limit, so we will not abandon it.
Vladimir Pepelyaev, retired Vice Admiral

He noted that the topic of combating naval drones is now very relevant. Pepelyaev recalled that ships have artillery and machine-gun mounts, the fire of which turns an unmanned boat into a "skeleton," and sailors need to know how to use them.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian military boats "Raptor" were proposed to be armed with MLRS installations. The boat is designed to defend basing points, ships from attacks by small surface targets in unprotected roadsteads, fire support for special forces units and marines in coastal areas.
