Russian servicemen have begun simultaneously using two 2S5 "Hyacinth-S" self-propelled guns (developed by "Uraltransmash" specialists) and the "Orlan-10" optoelectronic reconnaissance UAV. This "paired work" allows for counter-battery fire against enemy artillery, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, the artillerymen use standard high-explosive fragmentation shells 3OF29 (range 28.5 km) and 3OF59 (range 30.5 km).
The ballistic qualities of these guns, combined with the "Baklan" ARS, give the "Hyacinth-S" even greater counter-battery potential than the 2S43 "Malva" self-propelled gun with 2A64 guns.
He explained that the 2S43 "Malva" self-propelled gun fires 2A64 guns with rocket-assisted projectiles to a distance of 29 km. However, the key advantage of this howitzer is its rapid deployment, which is important in counter-battery warfare, the expert concluded.
