Ships of the Pacific Fleet of Russia and the Egyptian Navy conducted a joint exercise in the Mediterranean Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, a detachment of Russian ships consisting of the Guards Nakhimov Order missile cruiser "Varyag" of Project 1164 and the frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov" of Project 1155 left the port of Alexandria, where it had been on a business call.
It is noted that the joint exercise of the detachment of Russian warships with the Egyptian Navy became "another practical step in strengthening Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation".
The Egyptian Navy was represented by the frigate "Al-Qadir". The participants in the exercise practiced the formation of a detachment of warships in the designated area, joint tactical maneuvering in various formations, conducted communication exercises and ensured the flights of deck helicopters.
The joint exercise ended with a farewell ceremony, during which the ships of the two countries diverged on opposite courses under the sirens, the Ministry of Defense added.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the corvette "Gremyashchiy" conducted air defense exercises in Kamchatka. The air defense crews of the corvette detected a low-flying target, it was identified as a drone, and then destroyed.
