Irek Gumerov, Development Director and Deputy General Director of PJSC KamAZ, said on the sidelines of the SPIEF that it is impossible to fully localize truck production in the country. It is economically unprofitable for the business. According to him, some of the materials needed to produce trucks cost more in Russia than buying ready-made solutions from abroad.
Today, our metal price is at the price of a finished product there (abroad – ed.). If input materials are more expensive than the finished product, how can we localize?
At the same time, the auto giant from Naberezhnye Chelny has been actively involved in localizing truck production since the sanctions were imposed in 2022. The manufacturer claimed that it was able to completely import-substitute the flagship among its line of trucks — KamAZ K5. The car was equipped with a fully import-substituted cab, and the axles and automatic transmission were replaced with analogues.
