The Japanese government has imposed sanctions on 9 Russian companies and one individual. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Those included in the sanctions list face restrictions on payments and a complete freeze of assets. The reason for this is the supply of weapons from the DPRK to Russia.
The Government of Japan strongly condemns Russia's procurement of weapons from North Korea, as it violates UN Security Council resolutions.
The sanction list includes:
- the state airline "224th Flight Unit" and its General Director Vladimir Mikheychik;
- Transmorflot LLC;
- Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company LLC;
- AZIA shipping company;
- Military Unit 25969 (command of military transport aviation of the Russian Federation);
- Transmorflot LLC;
- Ashuluk training ground (185th Center for Combat Use and Combat Designation of the Aerospace Forces, testing ground for Russian air defense systems)
- Vladimirovka research complex;
- IBEX Shipping and Azia Shipping.
In April 2024, Japan imposed a number of export restrictions on Russia. They concerned goods in 164 categories. These included mineral fuels, lithium-ion batteries, electrical equipment, steel products, and pleasure craft.
