Russia Proposes Monitoring Taxi Drivers' Condition via Mobile Apps

The taxi industry calls standard medical examinations ineffective

Arseniy Shcheltin, General Director of ANO "Digital Platforms," proposed in a letter to the head of the Ministry of Transport, Roman Starovoit, to introduce new methods for monitoring the condition of taxi drivers. They want to replace the traditional medical examination of the driver, which, according to the rules, must be carried out twice a day.

Currently, there are more than 30 software products for remote pre-trip inspection.

For example, the driver's condition can be determined by the appearance of his pupil, as well as by his voice. It is proposed to test drivers through mobile applications.

Experts in the taxi industry note that the current regulations for medical examination of drivers are outdated. It cannot protect against fatal accidents that occur due to fatigue.

Nevertheless, not everyone in the industry supports the idea of examining taxi drivers through applications. For example, the head of the competence center of the International Eurasian Taxi Forum, Stanislav Shvagerus, believes that such digitalization will not lead to anything good. Deputy Chairman of the relevant committee of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vasily Baranov, believes that it will be delayed if the costs of using the new system are passed on to taxi companies.
