New Hypersonic Weapon for the Russian Navy May Be Entrusted to Developers of Onyx and Yakhont Missiles

NPO Iskra Plans to Fully Switch to Defense Rails Instead of Space

The United Rocket and Space Corporation, part of Roscosmos State Corporation, may lose one of its assets. Perm-based PJSC "NPO Iskra," which is engaged in rocket technology and is currently part of Roscosmos's subsidiary, may be transferred by federal authorities to JSC "Tactical Missiles Corporation" (KTRV) of Rosimushchestvo. KTRV currently consists of more than forty companies involved in the production and development of electronic warfare equipment, aviation weapons for air defense, naval missile systems, and other military equipment.

This plan is reported by "Ъ-Prikamye," citing its sources among representatives of federal authorities and employees of the defense industry complex.

The Iskra Research and Production Association is the largest developer and supplier of equipment for the fuel and energy and rocket and space industries in Russia. In addition to developing and manufacturing products for the fuel and energy sector, Iskra is actively involved in creating components for military-purpose missile products. For example, NPO specialists participated in the development of engines for the Granit anti-ship missile, the second and third stages of the R-39 missile of the Typhoon sea-based complex, engines for the Brahmos, Onyx, and Yakhont anti-ship missiles, and products for intercontinental ballistic missiles of sea and land basing: Bulava, Topol-M, and Yars.

According to the publication, which relies on the report for 2023, NPO increased its revenue from 5.533 to 6.74 billion rubles in 2023, and this was largely achieved through government defense orders. Also in 2023, Iskra received advances of 1.9 billion rubles for the development and manufacture of defense products.

But the most important thing is that the report, according to "Ъ-Prikamye," indicates that in 2024, Iskra will sign a contract to perform part of the research and development work to improve hypersonic weapons for the Navy. Therefore, the transition from "peaceful space" to "defense" for NPO seems quite logical. The publication has not yet received official confirmation of the replenishment of assets from KTRV, but there has been no categorical refutation either.
