Russia is using powerful electronic warfare (EW) systems that are "covering the sky," creating interference for British aviation. Airlines Ryanair, Wizz Air, British Airways, Jet2, EasyJet, TUI have recorded problems with satellite navigation in the Baltic region. The British newspaper The Sun wrote about this.
According to the publication, interference was recorded in the Baltic, Black Seas, and the eastern Mediterranean. The Sun quoted military expert Jack Watling, who stated that "the Russians have an order" to close the sky.
The Russians have long used GPS jamming as a harassment tool, projecting it across NATO borders. Wherever there is a large Russian garrison, you see GPS denial, and there is one in Kaliningrad.
US Intelligence Points to Russian Tobol EW System
Information from a US intelligence report, cited by The Washington Post in an article about "Russia's secret weapon," made the West nervous. The document claims that Russia is using the Tobol EW system to block the operation of the Starlink satellite internet system.
In the spring of 2023, Elon Musk announced attempts to attack Starlink. He wrote on social networks that the system allegedly demonstrated resistance to attempts at "jamming and hacking."
According to analysts at the Secure World Foundation, Russia has deployed at least 7 Tobol EW systems in different regions. Some of them are mobile complexes.
There is little public information about the Tobol EW system. It is known that it was created to protect the Russian satellite group from electronic warfare by the enemy.
