The Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev, has announced a new deadline for the start of production of the LMS-901 "Baikal" aircraft – the end of 2025. The aircraft will be operated in the Far East.
It's not all simple there. But at the end of 2025, "Baikal" should be on the line
According to him, active work on the aircraft is being carried out in the Ministry of Industry and Trade. They want to make "Baikal" competitive in terms of configurations and price. The aircraft is currently being finalized.
It should be noted that the start dates for the production of these aircraft have been shifted to the right more than once. Before the sanctions, it was planned to release an aircraft with a foreign General Electric H80 engine by 2023. Then it was decided to install a domestic VK-800SM engine on the aircraft. The start of production was scheduled for 2024, but then the dates shifted again.
Along with the postponement of the start of production, the prices for the aircraft also changed. Thus, the basic version of the LMS-901 aircraft was supposed to cost the buyer 120 million rubles, but then the price almost doubled.
It should be recalled that the "Baikal" aircraft is an aircraft with a single turboprop engine. It can accommodate nine people or up to two tons of cargo. The aircraft should replace the fleet of obsolete An-2 aircraft, which are actively used in the Far East.
