Motorized rifle units of the Central Military District (CMD) in the Orenburg region have received more than 60 Z-STS "Akhmat" and "Asteys" armored vehicles assembled in Tatarstan. The armored vehicles are designed to transport troops, escort and protect vehicle convoys.
The armored vehicles are made on the basis of a three-axle all-wheel drive KamAZ chassis. The armored hull contains space for troops, as well as a driver's seat. A hatch with a turret is made on the roof for installing a machine gun. The "Asteys" and Z-STS "Akhmat" armored vehicles are distinguished by increased cross-country ability and high protection of the crew from small arms and explosive devices.
To the place of deployment, armored vehicles can be transferred by military transport aircraft Il-76, An-124 and by rail. Both protected vehicles were developed in Naberezhnye Chelny.
The "Asteys" armored vehicle was created by specialists of the "Asteys" company, which is engaged in the design and production of special equipment. It was first presented at the international military-technical forum "Army" in 2017.
The Z-STS "Akhmat" armored vehicle was developed at the Remdizel enterprise (part of Rostec). The company has simplified its hull as much as possible in order to quickly establish mass production. The first samples of "Akhmat" armored vehicles entered the troops in 2022.
