The modernized Russian anti-aircraft missile and gun system (SAM) Pantsir-SM (NATO classification SA-22 Greyhound — "borzoi"), which is produced by specialists from the Tula Instrument Design Bureau, was demonstrated to the general public for the first time at a military parade in Tula. Heavy equipment is presented in sand camouflage.
The modernized SAM system received the newest radar guidance system based on a phased array reflective antenna 1RS3. The Pantsir-SM engages targets with the latest anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAMs) 57E6M. The range of the missiles is 40 km, and the target interception speed is up to 2 thousand km.

At the end of April 2024, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense ordered the Tula Instrument Design Bureau to double the production of the Pantsir-S1 SAM system by the end of the year. It is possible that specialists will also increase the production of the Pantsir-SM.
In combat conditions, single Pantsir-S1 SAM systems have repeatedly intercepted at least four GMLRS guided rockets in one sortie, launched from the M142 HIMARS MLRS. Obviously, the Pantsir-SM, with an increased range for detecting GMLRS projectiles and a higher initial speed of the 57E6M SAM, will be able to intercept 8 targets in one sortie.
