Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, at a solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day, spoke about the reason for the unscheduled sudden inspection of non-strategic nuclear weapons carriers in the country.
Minsk is reacting to the aggravation of the situation in Europe and the growth of military activity there in the form of months-long NATO exercises, and has a plan of action. The first part of it is related to checking its own resources, the second is with joint exercises between Minsk and Moscow, as close as possible to combat conditions. At the same time, the exercises do not pose a threat to other countries.
Today we are starting to work out the second stage of response measures. For its implementation, the general staffs of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia have provided for the verification of the forces and means of the joint regional group of troops, within the framework of which it is planned for the first time to work out the issues of the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons. During the inspection, special ammunition will be supplied to missile and aviation military units, loaded onto launchers and suspended on aircraft. Missile divisions of the Iskander and Polonez operational-tactical complexes will be covertly deployed to designated positions and will practice missile strikes to repel a likely attack on Belarus.
Earlier it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Ministry of Defense to prepare troops for exercises with the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons. Aviation and the Russian Navy will also be involved in the maneuvers.
Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the exercises are a response to "the creation of additional security threats" to the country from a number of NATO countries, and recalled that for Russia its own "guaranteed protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity" is "the highest priority of Russian policy in the field of military security, including the aspect of nuclear deterrence".
The Foreign Ministry also announced a mirror response to Washington's violations and "destruction" by Washington of the INF Treaty, which for many years served as "one of the pillars of international security and strategic stability." Russia is starting to produce medium- and short-range missiles.
