Scientists from the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (GUAP) have developed a portable device for diagnosing skin lesions in patients when providing first aid in the field and in rural areas.
Scope of the device:
- diagnosis of the depth of skin lesions with infrared sensing
- monitoring of skin lesions in oncological diseases
- examination of tissues in case of burns and frostbite
The university's press service explained that the important distinguishing features of the device are its low cost, compactness, and autonomous power supply. The author of the project, Margarita Trubina, added that together with her colleagues, they plan to introduce a neural network into the device. With its help, it is possible to identify neoplasms on the skin, including melanoma.
