Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor continues its development in the Russian market. Recently, an automotive engine plant was opened in the Uzlovaya industrial park in the Tula region. The Governor of the Tula region, Alexey Dyumin, took part in the opening ceremony. The plant, located on the territory of the existing Haval plant, will produce engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2 liters. This will increase the level of localization of production of Chinese cars.
The engines will be assembled from parts brought from abroad. The assembly line is equipped with five manipulators. The total area of the enterprise is 10,000 m², it is designed for 300 jobs. Haval's plans for engine production are 100 thousand engines per year. Turbocharged engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters will be installed on Jolion, F7, F7x and Dargo. Recall that the Haval H9 SUV was discontinued due to low sales: it was not the most popular model in both China and Russia.
The contract was signed with the Russian authorities back in September 2020. The company's investments in production in our country amounted to 42 billion rubles. In addition to engine production, Haval intends to assemble gearboxes and electronic control units in Russia.
Previously, www1.ru wrote about Haval's plans for engine production in the Tula region. The construction of the plant was delayed. It was planned that it would start operating in 2022. It should be noted that Chinese Haval crossovers turned out to be popular with law enforcement agencies. The Dargo model was purchased for police officers in the Moscow region.
