Researchers at NUST MISIS have presented new heat-resistant composites based on AA6063 aluminum alloy - they will be able to operate at temperatures above 300°C.
The result was achieved through mechanical alloying - ready-made aluminide particles were introduced into aluminum and the composites became more heat-resistant.
The heat-resistant aluminum composite we have created is a promising development for use in conditions where temperatures exceed 300°C. For example, in braking systems, engines, turbines and drilling rigs. The tensile strength of our materials at 300°C exceeds 240 MPa, and at room temperature it is more than 900 MPa. Such materials can become an effective replacement for heavy steels and expensive titanium alloys that are currently used.
According to the press service of NUST MISIS, detailed results of the study were published in the scientific journal The Journal of The Minerals and resonated with foreign colleagues.
Further work of the researchers will be aimed at optimizing the composition of the material and the modes of its production. In particular, it has already been discovered during research that the additional introduction of copper into the structure of the composite leads to an increase in hardness from 200 HV to 300 HV.
Employees of the University of MISIS and other scientists of Russia today, February 8, have a professional holiday - Russian Science Day. On this day in 1724, by order of Emperor Peter I, the Academy of Sciences and Arts was established.
Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Government of Russia, congratulated the scientists on their holiday. He recalled the contribution of Russian scientists and inventors to global scientific and technological progress in the past and noted the successes of the present time.
... In the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by the President of the Russian Federation in 2022, much attention is paid to the training of highly qualified scientific personnel. The necessary conditions are being created for conducting fundamental and applied research, developing and implementing unique projects that contribute to achieving the technological sovereignty of the country, allowing Russia to maintain its status as a great power. On this significant day, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who raises the prestige of Russian science, for your work and dedication to your vocation. I sincerely wish you new successes, health and well-being to you and your loved ones.
"The First Technical" joins in the congratulations and wishes Russian scientists new discoveries, their implementation and introduction into life, and worthy successors capable of continuing the development of Russian science.
