The Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of the Russian Federation has proposed creating a regional segment of the Unified Biometric System (UBS) in Moscow. A corresponding draft decree has appeared on the portal of regulatory legal acts.
According to the document, the UBS data will be used for operations with a low level of risk. In particular, for paying for travel in public transport, parking, and visiting organizations and cultural sites.
The regional segment will help develop various services based on biometrics. It is emphasized that the use of such data is voluntary.
In Moscow, in 2023, a function appeared for paying for travel on the subway using biometric data. It will be implemented in six more subways in the country by 2025.
The largest mobile operator MTS has also started working with biometric data of Russians.
