Complexes for protection against high-precision weapon guidance and FPV drones have become standard equipment for T-80BVM tanks, which is due to the use of equipment in combat conditions, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
The defense department clarified that the protection measures reduce the possibility of targeting the tanks by enemy weapons, and they also provide cover from kamikaze drone strikes. It is specified that the T-80BVM tanks, which have received additional equipment, provide fire support to assault troops and destroy enemy armored vehicles in the Eastern Military District.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the "Sosna-U" fire control system uses a laser beam to guide supersonic missiles launched from the tank's gun to the target. The tankers destroy the enemy while remaining outside the engagement zone.
Rostec recalled that the T-80BVM is produced by Omsktransmash. The tank is a deeply modernized version of the T-80BV with increased firepower and improved handling.
T-80 tanks are called "flying" for their ability to make jumps while moving. In 1993, at the IDEX exhibition, the T-80U crew demonstrated an impressive stunt - a jump of 14 m from a springboard. Another important characteristic of the equipment is its all-weather capability - the tank can operate even in severe frost.
It was previously reported that T-80BVM turrets began to install metal visors, which protect against FPV drones.
