In Russia, the rules for activating SIM cards by telecom operators may be tightened.
Sources from the "Kommersant" publication reported on the development of a new system to replace the current one. Presumably, operators will not be able to activate SIM cards without verifying the subscriber's data with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This will help to combat cybercriminals and control gray SIM cards.
However, it is unclear how long such a check will take even in theory, and how it will work for Russian non-residents who want to buy Russian SIM cards.
All this, according to experts, may put a significant burden on the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and telecom operators. And vice versa, provoke illegal trafficking in SIM cards.
Earlier it became known that "Gosuslugi" on the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development will soon be able to collect additional data about Russian SIM cards.
A section may appear in the personal account on "Gosuslugi" where users will see all the SIM cards that are registered to them. It is explained that in this way people themselves will be able to track whether their SIM cards and personal data in the form of their telephone numbers are used by fraudsters.
