Rosatom and Nornickel have signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of small nuclear power plants in Norilsk. The difficulty is that the system will be autonomous, as the city is cut off from the Unified Energy System of the country.
This is a nuclear power plant project based on the latest RITM-400 reactor plant. It is being developed by Rosatom's subsidiary, the I.I. Afrikantov Machine-Building Design Bureau.
Prior to this, Rosatom had already built similar small nuclear power plants in remote regions with low temperatures: in Chukotka and Yakutia. They have proven to be reliable and environmentally friendly.
