«Rosatom» and «Nornickel» have signed an agreement to cooperate in the construction of small nuclear power plants in Norilsk. The difficulty is that the system will be autonomous, as the city is cut off from the country's Unified Power System.

This is a nuclear power plant project based on the latest RITM-400 reactor unit. It is being developed by Rosatom's subsidiary, the I.I. Afrikantov Design Bureau.

Before this, similar small nuclear power plants built by Rosatom already existed in remote regions with low temperatures: in Chukotka and Yakutia. They have proven to be reliable and environmentally friendly.
