Employees of the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant (SNSZ, part of USC) have begun sea trials of the minesweeper "Lev Chernavin" of the "Alexandrite" project. The newest mine defense vessel, which was built by order of the Russian Navy, was developed at the Central Marine Design Bureau "Almaz", the USC press service reported.

The ship was laid down in July 2020. "Lev Chernavin", named after the Rear Admiral of the Northern Fleet, became the eighth minesweeper being built at the St. Petersburg enterprise under the "Alexandrite" project.

The vessel is designed to neutralize naval mines without entering the danger zone. As explained by USC, the equipment installed on "Lev Chernavin" can detect an explosive device located in the water and in the ground. Trawls, as well as unmanned underwater vehicles operating autonomously or remotely controlled by an operator, are used to combat mines.

Earlier it became known when the large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Chabanenko" will be modernized.
