Employees of the Middle-Neva Shipbuilding Plant (MNSZ, part of OSC) have started sea trials of the minesweeper 'Lev Chernavin' project 'Alexandrite'. The latest mine defense ship, which was built to order for the Russian Navy, was developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau 'Almaz'. This was reported by the OSC press service.

The ship's laying ceremony took place in July 2020. 'Lev Chernavin', named after the counter-admiral of the Northern Fleet, became the eighth minesweeper in a row, which is being built at a St. Petersburg enterprise as part of the 'Alexandrite' project.

The ship is intended for the neutralization of sea mines without entering a dangerous zone. As explained in the OSC, the equipment installed on the 'Lev Chernavin' can detect an explosive device located in water and in the ground. For fighting mines, sweeps are used, as well as unmanned underwater vehicles that work autonomously or are remotely controlled by the operator.

It was previously known when the large anti-submarine ship 'Admiral Chabanenko' will be upgraded.
