The Russian enterprise UAZ has launched a robotic system for door hemming (a method of mechanically joining the inner and outer panels of attached parts - editor's note www1.ru), and also installed PVC coating on the main assembly line of the plant.
As the company explained, the door hemming technology will improve the productivity of this assembly line section and eliminate the production of defective parts. UAZ expects that the modernization will affect the quality of manufactured vehicles, including the UAZ-450, better known as the "loaf".
It is noted that the employees of the car plant implemented the robotic system on their own. In particular, at the end of 2022, tooling and a pneumatic system for fixing parts were manufactured. In addition, the industrial electronics department of UAZ developed software (SW) for processing parts.
Earlier it was reported that UAZ will release a limited edition of "loaf" vehicles. The special version of the UAZ-450 will be more comfortable and safe. It is planned to introduce a seat heating system and provide a differential lock function (to improve wheel grip when driving off-road).
