Tomsk engineers from the Research Institute of Semiconductor Devices of TUSUR University have developed a sample of a "smart" battery for the first satellite of the "Marathon-IoT" constellation in just 5 months (which will serve the Internet of Things - editor's note www1.ru). By 2027, it is planned to increase their number to 100, the research institute reported.
The customer for the battery is JSC "Reshetnev" (the company, in cooperation with the Perm Scientific and Educational Center "Rational Subsoil Use", is implementing the "Marathon-IoT" project - editor's note www1.ru). The company has already conducted the necessary tests of the new battery. It is noted that it includes lithium-iron-polymer battery elements that operate with a sharp temperature drop in the range of -20°C…+60 °C.
Stable operation of the battery is ensured by a special electronic circuit that is triggered in emergency situations. The service life of the "smart" battery is at least 5 years.
In early October, Roscosmos announced that the first domestic satellite for the "Marathon-IoT" project would be launched on December 26. It will be delivered into orbit by the "Soyuz-2" rocket, which will launch from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Information about the launch was also confirmed at JSC "Reshetnev".
The Internet of Things group will include 264 vehicles with engines developed by the Fakel Design Bureau, which will be placed in 12 orbits. Mass launches of satellites are scheduled for 2024-2028.
