The shortage of bus drivers in Russia can be solved by transitioning to autonomous public transport.
In about ten to fifteen years, about a third of Russian buses will become autonomous - this was stated by the Vice President of the "National Automobile Union"; Jan Heijcke.
He noted that Russia is currently leading in the development of autonomous vehicles. Domestic automotive industry already manufactures autonomous trucks, there are both examples of autonomous taxis and autonomous agricultural machinery.
The transition to autonomous buses will eliminate the staffing issue. Currently, there is a shortage of 30% to 50% of drivers in different regions.
And, according to Heijcke, the number of drivers will only decrease. The problem is in demography, low wages and working conditions.
