This is a deeply modernized version of the Il-96-300, which is primarily distinguished by a fuselage extended by 9.35 m. At the moment, the airliner is preparing for its first flight at the site of the Voronezh enterprise VASO.

Also, the Il-96-400M received new more powerful PS-90A1 engines and modern Russian equipment, including avionics. The airliner can carry about 400 passengers and perform transcontinental flights.

Alas, the fate of the Il-96-400M is still unclear. Due to sanctions and the closure of many countries near and far abroad for Russians, long-haul wide-body aircraft are not in demand in Russia now. Essentially, the only direction that can fully reveal the potential of the Il-96-400M is flights to Cuba, but now there fly Boeing 777 and cope well with it. The Il-96-400M is not mentioned in the comprehensive program for the development of the Russian aviation industry.
