Mir payment system launched in Venezuela

Mir currently operates in 10 countries

The geography of the Mir payment system is expanding. Venezuela has become the new country where cards of the Russian system have started working.

This was announced by the president of the Central Bank of this country, Calixto José Ortega Sánchez. He also stressed that it "does not matter" to Venezuela what the United States and the European Union countries think about the financial cooperation between the Central Bank of Venezuela and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. Thus, Calixto José Ortega Sánchez reacted to the statements of the US Treasury Department, which said that the National Payment Card System (NPCS) and the national payment system Mir could be used to circumvent sanctions.

Currently, the Mir system operates in 10 countries, and more than 15 other states have expressed their readiness to implement it.
