"Gazprom" reported on the discovery of new oil deposits in the Khanty-Mansi autonomous region and the Tomsk region with a volume of at least 100 thousand tons, meanwhile, inflow of hydrocarbons has already been obtained from the discovered layers. Interestingly, the deposits were found with the help of a neural network.
The company uses machine learning algorithms to process large amounts of data from operating wells. In them, it finds patterns and determines where oil might be located. The neural network's processing of data from 1000 wells only takes a few minutes.
"The program takes into account all the geological and geophysical information accumulated in the company over many years. Based on this data, the artificial intelligence identifies the possible location of new hydrocarbon deposits on already developed fields. For their extraction almost no additional infrastructure is needed – it's enough to adjust operating wells", - reports "Gazprom".
