Gazprom announced the discovery of new oil deposits in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Tomsk Region, with a volume of at least 100,000 tons, and hydrocarbons have already been extracted from the discovered formations. Interestingly, the deposits were found using a neural network.
The company uses machine learning algorithms to process large amounts of data from existing wells. It identifies patterns and determines where oil may be located. The neural network takes only a few minutes to process data from 1,000 wells.
The program takes into account the entire volume of geological and geophysical information accumulated in the company over many years. Based on this data, artificial intelligence determines the possible location of new hydrocarbon deposits in already developed fields. Virtually no additional infrastructure is needed for their extraction – it is enough to adjust the existing wells," Gazprom reports.
