"The plane landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 23:35 local time (19:35 Moscow time)," said Sergey Krupnov, Deputy General Director of IrAero.

"This is the first direct flight to Vietnam from Russia after air traffic between our countries was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is not a charter, it is an ordinary, regular passenger flight where passengers are provided with hot meals and where you can easily buy a ticket," he added.

"We carried out quite painstaking preparatory work, we prepared as a team – the Ministry of Transport and Rosaviatsia actively supported us in this matter. We approached the issue carefully and thoroughly. Moreover, these flights are carried out as part of the implementation of the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation on the resumption of international air traffic with friendly countries," Krupnov noted.

Initially, IrAero will operate one flight per week on the Irkutsk - Hanoi - Irkutsk route on Sundays, then the same flight will be added on Fridays. In the future, the airline plans to open flights to the Vietnamese resort of Nha Trang from Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.
