The "High-Precision Complexes" holding (part of Rostec) announced the transfer of a batch of PP-2000 submachine guns to the Russian Aerospace Forces for trial operation. It is assumed that the PP-2000 will be able to replace the shortened Kalashnikov AKS-74U assault rifle in the portable emergency supply of military pilots.
«Currently, the 9x19-millimeter PP-2000 submachine gun is undergoing trial operation in the Russian Aerospace Forces, based on the results of which a decision will be made to replace the AKS-74U with the PP-2000 submachine gun», – said in "High-Precision Complexes."
The advantages of the PP-2000 over the AKS-74U are significantly smaller dimensions and weight (the PP-2000 is one of the lightest in the world, the weight without a magazine and buttstock is 1.4 kg). It was developed by the Instrument Design Bureau for the 9x19 Parabellum cartridge. The length of the weapon is 582 mm with the buttstock extended and 350 mm without the buttstock. For comparison, the length of the AKS-74U with the buttstock extended is 730 mm, with the buttstock folded – 490 mm.
