As reported by TASS, citing a publication by «Kommersantъ», the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media has prepared a preliminary version of the "Development Strategy for the Communications Industry in the Russian Federation for 2024-2035" . According to it, operators will start introducing 5G and 6G-Ready networks in the country starting from 2030, and in 2027 3G networks will be disabled - the industry will switch to 4G/LTE networks.
MTS has told Kommersant that they plan to gradually disable 3G networks after 2025, as users abandon devices without LTE support. Other operators have not commented on the strategy.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media notes that the draft strategy should be presented to the government by the end of May, while work on it is underway and proposals from the industry are being collected.
