Air service between Georgia and Russia resumed this week, and soon it will become much easier for Russians to fly to Cuba: the Aeroflot Group announced the resumption of regular flights to Cuba from July 1. The flights will be operated by the airline "Rossiya" (a subsidiary of "Aeroflot").
«Aeroflot resumes regular flights to Cuba from July 1. Flights to the popular Cuban resort of Varadero will be operated by "Rossiya" on wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft. Sales will open in the near future,» Aeroflot said in a statement.
Initially, flights will be operated twice a week, then their number may be increased depending on demand. Ticket sales will open next week.
The Russia-Cuba route is one of the oldest in the history of Aeroflot: the first flight took place on July 10, 1962 on a Tu-114 aircraft. After that, air service between the countries was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and after the introduction of restrictions by unfriendly countries.
According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, Russia can increase the volume of tourist flow to Cuba to 500 thousand people a year.
