The Russian Prospective Aviation Complex for Long-Range Aviation (PAK DA) is a development with enormous potential. The PAK DA is intended to replace the Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers, providing transportation of up to 30 tons of weapons over a distance of more than 12,000 km.
First Attempt
Research and development work (R&D) on the creation of PAK DA started back in 2009. A preliminary project was prepared in 2012, and the preliminary design was completed two years later.
The prototype was intended to be released in 2023, and its serial production was to begin in 2027.
Invisible Threat
All weapons will be placed in the internal compartments of the PAK DA, which will further reduce visibility in flight. It is planned to equip the missile carrier with long-range cruise missiles, hypersonic systems, including the Kh-101 and Kinzhal, the Kh-102 with a nuclear warhead, as well as the latest Kh-BD, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 6500 km.
The new bomber-missile carrier is being developed according to the "flying wing" aerodynamic configuration. This design avoids detection by enemy radar systems, making the PAK DA effective when penetrating even well-protected airspace.
When Will It Be in Production?
Of course, the newest aircraft will be equipped with the most advanced complex of radio equipment and a defense system that will allow it to interfere with any guidance systems. During the 2030s, the PAK DA should become the main aircraft of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the main problem of the aviation industry in Russia has been named.
