Russia has developed an effective loitering munition "Gepard" equipped with advanced electronic warfare (EW) capabilities. The drone follows the operator's instructions until it is out of range of enemy jamming systems, military expert Peter Suchiu writes in an article for The National Interest.
The expert noted that the "Gepard" has a "blind" flight function (cessation of video signal transmission, while the operator receives readings from sensors and instruments). This eliminates the possibility of the loitering munition being intercepted by the enemy.
"Gepard" has not received as much attention as "Lancet." However, Russian military personnel use both loitering munitions.
It is known that the new kamikaze drone has struck several armored personnel carriers and IFVs of NATO countries, as well as other military equipment. There is no doubt about its effectiveness.
Suchiu recalled that the West has its own "Gepard." But this is not a loitering munition, but a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard of German production. The weapon is designed to cover ground forces and destroy aerial targets.
