Russian specialists continue to develop advanced hypersonic weapons “at breakneck speed.” Military expert Brandon J. Weichert writes about this in the article “Russia is Preparing to Use the \"Nut\"” for The National Interest publication.
Russia is likely testing its \"Nut\" to prepare it for a new strike. This missile could become the most destructive Russian weapon.
The “Nut,” which develops “an incredible speed of up to Mach 10 with a flight range of about 5,500 km, can hit any point in Europe and even the west coast of the United States.”
Weichert emphasized that there is no serious defense against this missile. In his opinion, the only air defense system that could shoot down the “Nut” is the American THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense). However, there is no real evidence that THAAD can cope with Russian hypersonic weapons.
NATO can do little against the “Nut.” Oh yes, the “Nut” is also nuclear. If the Russians decide to go against the West with these systems, the destruction will be devastating.
