India today: Russia has delivered a batch of Igla-S MANPADS to India

The contract amounted to $3 million

India has received a batch of Russian 9K338 Igla-S man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). This was reported by India today, without disclosing its sources.

The contract is estimated at $3 million. The Igla-S has already been delivered to Indian military personnel stationed on the border in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to India today, the Indian Ministry of Defense has announced an urgent tender for the supply of 48 launchers and 90 missiles for the VSHORADS IR system. These are modernized Igla-S systems assembled in India under license.

Characteristics of the Igla-S MANPADS:

  • Target engagement range - from 500 to 6000 m
  • Altitude of targets engaged - from 10 to 3500 m
  • Transfer time from stowed to combat position - no more than 12 s
  • Readiness time for launch from the moment of activation - no more than 5 s
