Canadian authorities have begun the process of confiscating the world's largest transport aircraft, the An-124 "Ruslan", which is located at Toronto Airport. The aircraft belongs to the Russian company Volga-Dnepr. This is reported by Insauga.
A representative of the Canadian Foreign Ministry said that the case of confiscation of the aircraft is in the Supreme Court of Ontario. The corresponding statement from the country's Attorney General was submitted to the court on March 18, 2025.
The An-124 in Toronto is one of 26 aircraft of its type in the world. The cost of building a similar aircraft is about $300 million.
Volga-Dnepr delivered a batch of COVID-19 test kits from China to Canada on a transport An-124. On February 27, 2022, the Canadian authorities closed the airspace for Russian aircraft. The An-124 was unable to leave the country.
In the summer of 2023, the aircraft was seized. The management of Volga-Dnepr appealed to the court in Ottawa to challenge this decision.
